horse tales and horse lessons

So first I want to point out that I considered not blogging this but decided that I need to document this story for our blurb book - and so the boys can look back someday and see how they almost gave me a heart attack.  So the story goes like this: yesterday after I picked up the boys from school, we drove over to my friend Megan's house to hang out and play.  Megan lives out in the country (ha!  in rogers!)  and she and Bella (6yrs) showed us all their cool animals!  jackson was especially excited about seeing her horses.  jackson was very anxious to get on the horse and megan doesn't really use saddles so I didn't want them moving too far... mostly just sat on the "nice" horse.  :-)

Jackson really wanted to feed the animals - so he did.  :)
 And he chased the rooster!!

He even fed the "stupid" horse - and he was very gentle.  I kept my eyes on J and kept him by my side.
I warned him about a hundred times -
do not walk behind the horse.  do not walk behind the horse.  do not walk behind the horse.
I even got a few pics of me w/ my boys!!

Then, right after that picture, I knelt down to take a picture of Megan and Bella.  ONE SECOND.  The next thing I knew,  I heard the horse rear up - I heard him nicker and stomp away.... I saw Jackson fall backward onto his back - feet in the air.... I ran as fast I could w/ Ethan on my hip and grabbed my boy.  He was in shock - a panic.  He didn't cry - which scared me to which words cannot explain.  He couldn't get a breath and my fear became very very real.  I handed Ethan to Megan as fast as I could and grabbed Jackson - I asked him to cry!  CRY! Make a sound... His eyes were huge like he was scared to death.  I started shaking - I didn't know if he got kicked or what happened!!?  Megan made me to switch her kids cuz she could tell I was freaking out.  Finally, he started to cry.  Thank God.  He was so frightened.  I wanted to see what happened RIGHT NOW.  So we ran him inside and stripped off his clothes.  I couldn't believe it.  He had no signs of being kicked - no sores on his stomach or ribs.  He had a small scratch/bruise on his arm and his eye was red from falling.  PRAISE GOD. I mean, I have NEVER been that scared in my life.  I have been in 7 car accidents, had 4 teeth knocked out when I was 15, endured 2 very interesting labors, but NOTHING has ever EVER scared me as much as that did.  I will have nightmares of that frightened look on his face when he was gasping for air for the rest of my life.  I will forever be haunted by that image.  Things quickly were put into perspective for me.  My kids are my world.  Their safety is MY responsibility.  MY JOB!  I feel ashamed that I let him out of my sight - and I feel like God has honestly said "careful, keisha.... i'm warning you.... don't lose sight of what's important here."  I feel like God has given me the greatest blessing in the world - protecting my (HIS) child from what could have been some very very serious harm.  I am grateful beyond words.

What Megan and I decided based on asking J lots of questions and what little we did see.... is that Jackson walked back there by the horse - and because he was on top of the horse earlier and we were telling him to hold the horse's hair, he grabbed it's tail - which caused him to jump (not kick) and that sudden jolt scared Jackson and he jumped back - onto a very uneven terrain which includes lots of rocks - and he fell back onto the rocks.  That fall from standing up knocked the wind out of him - that's why he couldn't get a breath.  After analyzing his whole body and what I know about horses - if that horse would have kicked him, something would be seriously wrong - ribs broken, bruise on stomach or even worse - so I conclude that he was spared and because of that, we are all very very blessed.  I know I learned a valuable lesson - I just hope my fearless child did too.

and afterward, he got ice cream - which made everything much better.  for both of us. :)
Thank you God for protecting my sweet boy.

Daddy's Shadow.

...or maybe just a growth on his back?
People smile when I say that I am going to force Ethan to be MY boy.  This is why.  Jackson is absolutely mesmerized by his daddy.  And truthfully, I cannot think of anyone better to be mesmerized about -
I'm pretty fond of him myself...  :)

Swimming with Daddy.

Two nights ago, we went across the street and went swimming - just the 4 of us. Ethan and I opted to stay out of the pool this time - but J and Daddy made some big splashes of their own!  Jackson is officially at a point where he is comfortable swimming in the water w/o holding onto someone... He realizes his puddle jumper won't let him get his "head under."

Ryan loves to do fun jumps into the pool and I love to take pictures, so we were having some fun making fun photos of him gliding into the water!  Jackson thought all of these jumps were pretty spectacular.  Of course... cuz Daddy did them.  Ethan - was perfectly content (once I took him out of the stroller) to push the stroller around for almost a half hour!  He just pushed it around in circles over and over in an area a little off the side away from the water.  :)  This was a great way to get our little men nice and tired before bed!

These days make the best memories.

rainy 4th

Our 4th of July this year was a very rainy one!  So we decided to pull out the paints and have some fun!  Jackson was excited when I suggested that I paint his hands!  He chose the colors.

Colors got a little mixed up.  :)

Jackson's little masterpieces. :)
Happy 4th of July!!

Quick Trip!

On Saturday - around 1p, I dropped off Jackson w/ my mom and took Ethan for a quick visit to Little Rock. My friend Stacey was in LR for the weekend and at 34 wks pregnant, this is her last visit to LR from Dallas til after baby Cameron comes, so I wanted to take advantage of seeing her! So after Darcy and I got the kids to bed, Eugene kept the monitors and let us go have a quick shopping trip to Babies R Us and dinner at On The Border. Yum. We sat and talked til after 11pm! Then, Sunday morning Ethan and I were back on the road home! While I was there, I tried to get as much Rylee time as I could! She's pretty darn cute. :)

Ethan meets Sammie and plays with Rylee's toys!

Ethan and Rylee - 6 1/2 mos apart.

no 3t now.

This spring, I bought Jackson some swim trunks just knowing that we would be spending a lot of time in the pool this year.  His papa and Nana even got him these ADORABLE Thomas swim trunks - but he cannot fit in any of them.  My sweet boy is going through his "growth lull" now - and is wearing 3T tops but still 2T bottoms.  I had to pull all of his old 2T shorts that I had put in storage last year - back out!  What can I say - I guess he's built like Uncle Ray with no hips, no butt and a long torso. Pretty cute nonetheless.  Guess we're all good for next summer!

Traintastic!

So I mentioned that I read this book "Making the Terrible Twos Terrific."  I mentioned it's a GREAT book and it's the second time I read it - although, the first time, I obviously didn't take all of his advice.  Namely, he is majorly anti-TV.  He has a chapter on it - and he's totally right.  I know, I know.  I have taken the TV away from Jackson like 4 times before... for like a week at most... and I'm not saying this time will be perfect, but I will be wrapping up Day 5 today of "no tv."  It's HARD.  The TV totally entertained J so I could do "Ethan" things and housework and cooking, etc.  And since Ryan is gone on his golf trip now, I'm REALLY feeling the effects of having a "no-TV" policy.  However, it's forcing ME to be more creative too!  When we got home from Jamaica, J was promised if he was good for Mimi, we would have a present for him... So this is his new train - and although, I'm embarrassed at how many trains he has, I can say that he actually plays w/ about 75% of them and he creates magical stories about them... So it's definitely something that he enjoys.

Back to the no TV.
A couple days ago, this is what we spent most of an entire morning on.
Needless to say, it created hours and hours more of fun and role playing.  No TV required.  :)
